The Friends of St Candida is a small secular charity that raises money to fund the preservation and improvement of the fabric of St Candida and Holy Cross Church in Whitchurch Canonicorum, Dorset. We also encourage the use of the church as a community facility through events and social activities, and promote awareness of the church’s importance as part of our common heritage.
The church contains the shrine of St Wite (also known as St Candida) – the patron saint of Dorset – and is now the only parish church in England to house the bones of a saint. You can read more about the shrine’s history here.
This year’s CommuniTea Cafe sessions took place on the first Sunday morning each month from April to October, and were again hugely successful. We hope to repeat them next year.
The cafe gives locals and visitors a chance to drop in to the church and enjoy a chat over hot drinks, biscuits and cakes. All refreshments are free, although donations towards our expenses are always welcome.
